Designed by Sam Manuard, the First 14’s planing hull strives to achieve the best compromise between speed and stability. The dinghy’s double centre-board casing means that she can be sailed solo (centreboard further aft and cat rig) or two-up (centreboard further forward and with a set of three sails). With a sail area varying between 8.5 and 21.5 m², the First 14 is highly adaptable and suited to all levels of ability. Designed for a wide range of crew sizes and weights, the cockpit has several seat heights: she is particularly comfortable on the longest sides. With a set of removable wheels, every detail on the First 14 aims to simplify sailing in every way.
Stable, fast and easy to handle, the First 14 is remarkably versatile. She is all fun and thrills for all ages!

The full configuration with mainsail, jib and spinnaker can be reduced under sail. The jib can be furled, the size of the mainsail adjusted and the centreboard moved aft to suit the crew size. These simple modifications mean that seasoned sailors can take her out in heavy air, while children and teenagers will love sailing her in a fresh wind. The Cat configuration (mainsail only) can easily be scaled up to a full rig, as all the fastening points are already present on board.
The First 14 only weights 67 kg, so she can be towed or carried on the roof of a car. Her vacuum-infusion sandwich construction optimises her weight, making her robust and ensuring a long life.
Boasting a 1.70 m hull beam and a very well thought-out longitudinal shape, the First 14’s handles so well that everyone feel safe, no matter how heavy the crew is. : She is quick to plane and does not nose dive.
